• Why does my text need a professional proofreader/editor?
Because every text, no matter how well written, contains errors that are hard for the author to spot. This is even more true when writing in a second language: small mistakes in grammar, word choice, or phrasing can be invisible to you but obvious to a native or highly proficient reader, and they can quietly undermine how professional or credible your text sounds.
• What’s the difference between proofreading and editing?
Proofreading is a final check: we correct spelling, grammar, punctuation, and typos so your text is clean and error-free. Editing goes further. We also work on sentence structure, word choice, and flow, so the text reads naturally and clearly, while keeping your voice intact.
Editing always includes proofreading. They’re priced and offered as two separate tiers so you can choose the level your text actually needs.
• How do I know which one I need?
Proofreading is the right call if your text is already solid and you mainly want a final check before sending it: catching the typos, slips, and small errors that creep into any piece of writing. Editing is worth it any time you want the text to actually read well, not just be error-free. It catches things proofreading alone wouldn’t touch, like awkward phrasing, repetition, or sentences that are technically correct but don’t quite land the way you intended. If you wrote it in a second language or you’re not fully confident in how it reads, editing is usually the better fit.
• What about texts that have already been translated into English?
This is a different job from proofreading or editing an original. When a text has been translated, whether by a person or by machine translation, it can carry over problems that don’t show up in writing done directly in English: unnatural phrasing, literal translations that don’t quite work, mistranslated nuances, or a tone that doesn’t match the original intent.
Reviewing a translation means comparing it against the source text (when needed) and fixing not just grammar and style, but anything that reads as translated rather than written. • ¿Cómo sé cuál de los dos servicios es más apropiado para mí?
El proofreading es la opción adecuada si tu texto ya está bien trabajado y solo quieres una revisión final antes de enviarlo: detectar erratas, descuidos y pequeños errores que se cuelan en cualquier texto. El editing merece la pena cuando quieres que el texto no solo esté libre de errores, sino que además esté bien redactado. Este último permite identificar aspectos que el proofreading por sí solo no detectaría, como frases poco naturales, repeticiones o construcciones correctas pero que no transmiten lo que realmente querías decir. Si lo has escrito en una segunda lengua o no estás del todo seguro de cómo suena, el editing suele ser la mejor opción, pues es la corrección más completa.
• ¿Qué pasa con los textos que ya se han traducido al inglés?
Este es un trabajo distinto al de corregir o editar un original.
